Art on the map - Riverbank Studios
Artists in Lincolnshire are throwing open their doors and inviting the public inside to see what is going on.
Spalding is particularly well endowed with artistic talent and one of the most popular venues is Riverbank Studios run by local artists John Gray and Helen Webber. As well as exhibiting their work, John and Helen also teach and their art classes are a sell out success with over 100 budding artists honing skills under their tutelage.
If you miss them this weekend don’t worry as Riverbank Studios will next be opening their doors again on the weekend of 28th and 29th March, 2009.
Unique Cottage Studios
There are 4 artists work on show at Unique Cottage Farm Studios;
Carloyn Goodwin is inspired by rural scenes.
Gillian Wing’s Strawberry Glass design Studios
Hilary Peach’s Peachy’s pottery and
Charlie Harrison’s paintings.
Welland Gallery Cooperative to close
Spalding artists Cooperative, The Welland Gallery have reluctantly decided to close their Gallery and shop at Bond Street Court, Winsover Road.
The only local artists cooperative have been promoting local art and artists for just over four years in Spalding but rising property maintenance costs, rent increases, the recent financial crisis and ill timed road works restricting passing trade have finally taken their toll on the group.
The shop will be closing its doors to the public on 23rd December but artists are planning to keep in touch with several exhibitions at local venues being planned for 2009.
Tough Times for local art
The economic downturn is hitting local artists in Spalding.
Following news that the Welland Gallery is to cease operations, it came to light that The Edge Gallery is also to close it’s doors.
At times like this people are just not able to afford paintings for their walls and are having to concentrate on the essentials of life.
